Day 3

Today was Hill City to Osborne 60 something miles.

Just a quick post. James Facebook status:
"Osborne for the night. Rain/Hail/Monsoon delay this morning until 9 am. I took shelter in a gas station with food and coffee! Others on the road already had to use barns and bridges. Rained most of the way plus headwinds. Once it stopped the sun came out and the wind picked up lots. In short, I'm alive, exhausted, and healthy. That's all for now."

The girls had a fun day at grandmas in spite of the rain. While they didn't get to go swim, they did play with Chase in the rain. They made mud pies and mud facials. I will have to post pics later.

Day 2

June 5-6

We spent the day Saturday in Colby. James arrived here by 10am. He had 38 miles to ride from Goodland to Colby and had an early start. So we had lots of time to just hang out.

We decided to go to the Prarie Art and History museum. I realized we haven't taken Katrianna to see many museums of "old stuff". This museum has a enormous barn that is hard to believe that they moved it to the museum site. They also had a school, church, and many relics to see including toys through the years, dolls, and glassware.
I included a picture for my teacher friends and of course James found a drum.

Later we went swimming and had our favorite supper-China Buffet! Tomorrow we are on to Grandma's in Smith Center. James will ride the 66 miles to Hill City for his overnight stop.

Bike Across Kansas 2010-Day 1

June 4

This year's BAK has officially started for the Davis family. It is Ellianna's first trip across the state! Hopefully she enjoys it or at least sleeps through most of it. Our starting point this year is Goodland. We left later than planned - like usual- on Friday. Fortunately we only made two stops-Salina and Hays. Ellie did sleep most of the way and those were two good stops to change her and feed her.

After we arrived in Goodland and James checked in, we took him to the Colorado line to complete the evening ride. Ellianna has now been in Colorado-at least briefly. Coming back through Goodland, we stopped to see the largest Van Gogh painting. Then we went on to our hotel in Colby where we stayed two nights. We arrived at our hotel at 10:30 and Katie was excited to have about 30min yet to swim!

Funny story time:

Apparently the last trip I and Katie made getting stuff from the car we forgot to close the back of the van. So at 12:30a there was a knock at the door. It was the Colby police. He informed me my van was open and would escort me to see if anything was missing. It must have been a slow night in Colby as there were three police officers! I confessed that probably one of the kids had forgot to shut it because the rest of the doors were still locked. Everything valuable was already in the hotel but I looked to make sure nothing else was missing. After traveling all day the van looked like it had been ransacked with stuff everywhere. Then one of the police officers had another question for me. He had noticed a small baggie of white pills. It is Katie's motion sickness pills that we keep in the car. I had the bottle too, but for some reason we had some in a baggie as well. They must have decided to take my word for it and that I didn't look enough like a drug dealer to question further. Or they took pity on me when I said I have a 1 month old and three other kids traveling with me!
